IFIC & Foundation Staff

IFIC and the International Food Informaiton Council Foundation are staffed by a diverse group of professionals from a variety of diciplines including nutrition, food science, communications, journalism, law and business.

 

David B. Schmidt

President & CEO

The Board of Directors of the International Food Information Council (IFIC) in Washington, DC elected David Schmidt as president & CEO effective January 1, 2006.  Schmidt also serves as President & CEO of the International Food Information Council Foundation.  Previously, he held the positions of executive vice president, vice president and director and has been a frequent speaker on a wide range of food safety and nutrition issues.  Prior to joining IFIC in 1993, Schmidt served as the first Bush Administration's director of external affairs for the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Kimberly Reed

Executive Director

Kimberly Reed is Executive Director of the International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation in Washington, DC. She also serves as Senior Vice President for Membership, Communications, and Strategic Initiatives at IFIC. In addition to leading the development of the Foundation, Kim oversees IFIC's Media Relations, International Relations, and Trends and Consumer Insights Programs. She currently serves on several boards, including the National Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association, American Swiss Foundation, and West Virginia Wesleyan College, and Advisory Council of the International Center of Excellence in Food Risk Communication.  Kim was named one of the top 100 Women Leaders in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).  She also has extensive experience at senior levels in both the public and private sectors, including as Senior Advisor to two U.S. Treasury Secretaries; Director of the U.S. Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund; Counsel to the U.S. Congress; and Vice President for Financial Markets Policy Relations at Lehman Brothers, Inc.

Marianne Smith Edge, MS, RD, LD, FADA

Senior Vice President, Nutrition and Food Safety

Marianne Smith Edge, MS, RD, LD, FADA is Senior Vice President, Nutrition & Food Safety for the International Food Information Council (IFIC) in Washington, DC. In her role at IFIC, Smith Edge is responsible for directing the overall nutrition and food safety strategic initiatives of the organization, group facilitation and external collaborations. She also serves as IFIC’s spokesperson on various nutrition, food safety and health issues.
