While many of us are preparing for holiday parties, family meals, or planning trips to visit loved ones, the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walk here in Washington, D.C. was a nice reminder to be thankful and to be aware that not everyone will have such a happy holiday season.

The Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walk on November 21st was the second event for the IFIC Fit team, and turn out was great with five IFIC staff members coming out along with family and friends.  As participants can designate to which charity they would like to donate, many of us on the IFIC Fit team opted to make contributions to food-related organizations, such as Bread for the City, Inc., DC Central Kitchen, Inc., and the Loaves and Fishes Program.  This helped make the walk even more special and relevant to us and our work.

This walk was an excellent way to give back to the Washington, D.C. community, while also doing something good for our health.  It was a great way to remember that the holidays are about helping others, enjoying the company of friends and family, and being thankful for all we have been given.  Geraldine McCann, one of the participants from the IFIC Fit team said, “What a wonderful experience it was to be part of a movement that will make a real difference in the lives of so many.”

I would encourage all of you, as the holidays near, to remember to be thankful, reach out a helping hand to those less fortunate, and try to do something good for you and your family.  It will add an extra special layer to the holiday season!
