Here at the International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation we are very much aware that today’s food supply is global in nature, with many foods and food ingredients traveling around the world so consumers have access to a wide variety of safe, nutritious and appetizing foods.

So we were delighted to learn that a new food and health communications organization has just opened its doors in Argentina, to provide expert insight to the southern part of our western hemisphere.

Argentina is an important producer of agricultural products, most notably beef, soybeans and cereals that collectively account for over 54% of Argentine exports.  Food safety is a very important issue for producers, health authorities and consumers.  Argentina has been a rapid adopter of new technologies in agriculture and food production, which are not always fully understood by consumers.  The country is facing very similar challenges to the U.S. in understanding the role of a balanced diet, and the role that modern food production can play in ensuring a healthful and convenient lifestyle.

The new website for the Council for Food Safety and Nutrition Information (www.CISAN.org.ar) is an excellent resource.  It subscribes to the very best principles and practices in food and health communication.  Among an extensive array of Spanish language resources, it also includes materials from the IFIC Foundation and our colleagues at the European Food Information Council.

Congratulations CISAN!  We wish you every success and look forward to working with you.
