Most of us know how important it is to be active. We may even sign up for a gym membership or pledge to take weekly walks with our family. But life often seems to get in the way – work, the kid’s activities, unexpected events… the list just goes on and on. Before we know it, it’s been weeks since we actually moved our bodies the way we promised we would. We didn’t plan this, it just happened!

Saturday, October 16, 2010 is International Fitness Day, and it is a great opportunity to learn about fitness and how you and your family can become more physically active. International Fitness Day is the day dedicated to celebrating health and fitness around the world, and to raise money for organizations focused on fighting the growing obesity epidemic – namely the American Diabetes Association and HealthCorps.

In addition to some other locations, there is a fitness expo that will be held in Leesburg, VA on October 16, 2010. This expo will feature fitness and exercise classes, fitness experts, flexibility testing, body composition analysis, and healthful refreshments. This is a great event that will get you and your family excited about fitness and ready to move!

For those of you who can’t make it to Leesburg, there will be a free, online health expo from October 12-15, 2010. The online health expo will feature webinars with a number of health professionals including the “guyatitian” Dave Grotto, RD, personal trainer Marc Lebert, strength and conditioning specialist Gerard Recio, B.Sc. (Kin) C.S.C.S, dietitian and nutrition coach Bonnie Taub-Dix, MA, RD, CDN, and IFIC’s very own Senior Director of Health and Wellness, Wendy Reinhardt Kapsak, MS, RD. Wendy’s session “Walk the Talk: Helping Families Achieve a Healthy Weight and Active Lifestyle” will provide research-based tips and tricks that fitness and nutrition professionals use to help their clients achieve a healthful lifestyle for their families. Wendy’s session will be held on Wednesday, October 15 at 1:00pm. For the full webinar schedule, click here. All sessions are free – sign up today!

Participating in the International Fitness Day in-person event or online expo is a great way to hear from nutrition and fitness experts, and to get motivated to start and stick with fun physical activities for the whole family. Check out www.internationalfitnessday.com to learn more!

Did you learn anything new through the online expo webinars? Let us know if the experts’ advice helped you and your family get started on the road to fitness!
