It’s National Nutrition Month,® and the International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation is excited to participate and embrace the theme “Get Your Plate in Shape to Manage Your Weight.” This theme supports USDA’s MyPlate, which is a result of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The new icon, MyPlate, illustrates the five food groups that are the building blocks for a healthful diet using a familiar image—a plate.
As a registered dietitian and past president of the American Dietetic Association, now the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, I have always seen the annual National Nutrition Month celebration as an opportunity to refocus on those New Year’s resolution and raise consumer awareness about making simple changes to achieve not only healthful eating, but also a healthful lifestyle!
It is also an opportunity to collaborate with others to reinforce the importance of overall nutrition and wellness.
When organizations like the IFIC Foundation, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, USDA, and a host of others join together around a common theme, in this case healthful eating and lifestyle, success can happen!
Throughout the month of March, the IFIC Foundation’s website, FoodInsight.org will feature numerous resources for National Nutrition Month, including a variety of blog posts, videos and other materials. Be on the lookout for information on a Twitter Chat later in the month—stay tuned!
If you don’t already, follow us on Twitter (@IFICMedia & @FoodInsight) and “like us” on Facebook at Food Insight to keep up on our National Nutrition Month activities.
