NewsBite: National Nutrition Month Recap

The IFIC Foundation would like to congratulate the winners and thank all who participated in our National Nutrition Month Video Contest.  This was the first contest hosted by the IFIC Foundation to promote the National Nutrition Month, and this year’s theme was “Eat right, your way, every day.” The contest received numerous creative entries from students, registered dietitians, and others describing the many possible ways to maintain a consistently healthful diet.  Although many consumers find it challenging to eat right because of busy schedules and the stress of everyday life, the videos offered practical advice to overcome these barriers. Here are the highlights from the contest winners:

Allison Kliewer, a dietetic intern from San Antonio, TX, emphasized balance in her life with physical activity, colorful meals, and moderation when eating out.  Allison won registration to the 2013 Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo. Christee Fontanez, a busy mom, explained that despite a hectic schedule, eating right every day is possible with the inclusion of fresh ingredients and strategic meal planning. Christee received a brand new Kindle Fire HD. (Click here to watch Christee’s video)

All of the participants’ videos offered excellent nutrition tips. Some of the other highlights included navigating college dining from an on-campus dietitian, aiming for a variety of food groups at every eating occasion, and spreading your nutrition message with social media. All in all, the contest was a great success.

Thanks again to everyone who participated, and congratulations to our winners!  Additional tips from the IFIC Foundation registered dietitians on staff can be found at the Food Insight blog. Be sure to follow Food Insight on Facebook and Twitter for future promotions.
