CPE Webinar - “Getting to the Bottom of the Omega-6:Omega-3 Confusion”

What are omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids? Are they healthful or harmful? What is the science behind an omega-6:omega-3 ratio? What do health professionals and consumers need to know?

According to Dr. Bill Harris, there have been some researchers and popular nutrition books which recommended that people reduce their consumption of omega-6 fatty acids. This grew out of a debate surrounding the purported pro-inflammatory effects of omega-6 fatty acids and the hope that a "healthy" omega-6 to omega-3 ratio could be defined. Over the past few years, the confusion around omega-6 fatty acids and dietary recommendations has increased. However, according to Dr. Harris, the state of the science is clear.

This one-hour webcast offers 1.0 continuing professional education (CPE) unit for those Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered who participate in the live event.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the CPE program, the learner should:

  • Clearly define and provide examples of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids
  • Understand the state of the science for and the usefulness of an omega-6:omega-3 ratio
  • Recognize the importance of leading dietary recommendations for omega-6 fatty acids
