Food Safety Matters: Food Safety Education Month

The International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation would like to extend an invitation to you to participate in Food Safety Education during the full month of September.  This year's theme is “Food Safety Matters,” emphasizing the importance of food safety from farm to fork.
 
During September, the IFIC Foundation is hosting a series of events and activities to promote the importance of food safety and why it matters to everyone across the entire food chain. On September 19, 2013 from 1:00- 2:00 pm EDT, we will host an educational webinar “Food Safety Matters” that will feature data and consumer insights from our 2013 Food and Health Survey.  We will review consumer perceptions regarding food safety and examine trends in safe food handling practices.  Our special guests will include Britanny Saunier, Project & Development Associate with the Partnership for Food Safety Education to dispel the most common Food Safety Myths.  Additionally we will hear from CiCi Williamson, USDA Food Safety specialist who will provide an overview of the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline Hotline and answer common questions about food safety and safe food handling.

Participation in the Web cast will serve as one (1) hour of Continuing Professional Education through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).  Registered dietitians and dietetic technicians, registered, may earn one CPE credit hour for attending the event.
 
Learning Objectives:
After completing this CPE program, participants will be able to:
Understand consumers' current knowledge, attitudes, and/or behaviors on food safety;
Identify opportunities for applying consumer research to improve food safety communications to enhance public health,
Dispel common myths about safe food handling
Gain valuable insights about USDA’s meat and poultry hotline to answer common consumer questions about safe food handling
Enhance knowledge about credible food safety resources
