Steven Rizk, Ph.D.
Dr. Steven W. Rizk is currently the Global Head of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs for Mars Incorporated. In this capacity he is responsible for setting standards of practice, governance and global oversight in the areas of scientific affairs, regulatory affairs and regulatory compliance activities across all Mars businesses. He has worked as a scientist in the food industry for 30 years. He has 9 years experience in product development and 21 years’ experience in Scientific & Regulatory Affairs. Dr. Rizk joined Mars in 1989 as a senior research scientist. In 1993, he was asked to lead the Scientific Affairs group for M&M/MARS with oversight for MARS in North & South America. In 2011, he was promoted to his current global role. In addition to leading the Mars Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Leadership Team Dr. Rizk is also key member of several Mars governance groups. These include the Global Food Policy Group; the Quality & Food Safety Leadership Team; the Mars Science Leadership Team; the Mars Scientific Advisory Council.
His education includes a B.S. degree in biology (Clark University), an M.S. degree in nutritional biochemistry (University of Connecticut) as well as Ph.D. in food science (University of Massachusetts).
Dr. Rizk represents MARS on several food safety, health & nutrition and regulatory committees within trade and professional associations. In addition to serving on the International Life Sciences Institute North America Board of Trustees, he also serves on the University of Massachusetts Food Policy advisory board. He has played an international role by serving as a key member of various delegations at Codex Committee meetings that cover food labeling and chocolate standards and by presenting at numerous international scientific conferences. Dr. Rizk is also a professional member of the Institute of Food Technologists.
