News Bite: IFIC Foundation's Added Sugars Consumer Research in the Spotlight

IFIC Foundation’s Nutrition Facts Panels and Sugars Labeling consumer research took center stage in the November issue of the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Published online in June, the final article is now available in print.

In recent months, IFIC Foundation’s research project has been featured in high-profile media outlets such as The New York Times, Reuters, The Washington Post, and Yahoo!

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also conducted research on the topic of consumer interpretation of various components of the Nutrition Facts Label to inform its final ruling on proposed Nutrition Facts Label revisions. FDA consumer research findings were released for public comment in late July 2015, and the comment period closed on Oct. 13, 2015.

The IFIC Foundation submitted its consumer research results in written comments to FDA that highlighted key similarities and differences between IFIC Foundation and FDA study design and results. A final rule from FDA on proposed changes to the Nutrition Facts Label is expected in 2016.
